सत्यम् शिवम् सुन्दरम्
जो सत्य है वही शिव (कल्याणकारी) है और सुन्दर है
What is true is Shiv (provides welfare) and is beautiful

His neck, with his thick forest-like locks of hair, holy by water flowing,
On his neck, as garland whom none can pair, the lofty snake is hanging,
His `Damaru’ drum with its Damat Damat Damat in the air be echoing,
Lord Shiv - auspicious Tandava dances - may He prosperity be giving.

Shiv, whose head is glorified by rows of celestial Ganga’s waves moving,
And in the deep well of his long hair-locks they be ever but so agitating,
He who on the surface of his forehead glows with the brilliant fire flaming,
And who has the crescent moon as a jewel on his head forever enlightening.

In Shiv wherein all universal beings exist may my mind happiness be seeking,
Shiv - the sportive companion of Parvati - daughter of the mountain king,
Who controls invincible hardships with his compassionate look ever flowing,
Who is but all-persuasive and the four directions are his eternal clothing.

May I seek deep pleasure in Lord Siva, who of all life is supporting,
With reddish brown hood and gems’ luster on it - his snake creeping
Variegated colors on pretty faces of maidens of directions spreading,
Who with his upper garment of intoxicated elephant’s skin covering.

May Shiv give us prosperity, who has moon as his head-jewel covering,
And by the red snake-garland whose locks are tied and ever is flowing,
Whose foot-stool is but grayed by the very dust from the flowers flowing,
This dust from rows of all Gods’ head, Indra/Vishnu and others is coming.

May we get the wealth of Siddhis as Shiv's locks of hair unending,
Who devoured Love God with sparks of fire in his forehead flaming,
Who is bowed to by all celestial leaders in the universe unquestioning?
Who is beautiful and sublime with his crescent moon ever shinning.

My interest is in the Trinetra Lord Shiv with three eyes bearing,
Who has offered the powerful God of Love into the fire not fearing,
Dhagad - Dhagad on the flat surface of his own forehead flaming,
Who the sole artist of attractive lines on Parvati’s breast is drawing,

May Shiv, bearing the universe burden, give us prosperity - his blessing
Who is lovely with the moon and who is red with the skin he is wearing,
Who has the fierce celestial river Ganga tamed on his hair yet flowing,
His neck is dark as new moon midnight with layers of clouds covering.

I pray to Shiv whose neck is tied with the luster of temples hanging,
On the neck with the splendor of the blue lotuses fully-blooming,
As evil - killer of Manmatha, destroyer of Tripuras and life bonding,
Destroyer of sacrifice, darkness, elephants, and death controlling.

I pray to Shiv, encircled by bees due to Kadamba flowers surrounding,
He is the destroyer of Manmatha, Tripuras - bonds of worldly life sounding,
He destroyed sacrifice, demon Andhaka - the elephants’ killer – unfailing,
And he ever controlled the God of death - Yama - who does his bidding..

Shiv, whose Tandava’s dance is tuned with sounds drums are making
The Dhimid – Dhimid – Dhimid - Dhimid sounds that are his own beating,,
He has the fire on his great forehead, the fire that is ever spreading,
Due to the of breath of the snake in whirling motion in the sky wandering.

When will I worship the Eternal God Lord Shiv who but be showing,
Equal vision towards people or king and grass or lotus-like eye pairing,
Towards friend or foe or valuable gem or some lump of dirt existing,
Towards a snake or garland or varied ways of the world and its being.

When will I be happy, in the hollow place near the river Ganga am living,
With reverence and folded hands on my head all the time I am carrying,
With my bad thinking washed away, and mantra of Lord Siva hauling,
And ever devoted in Shiv - with glorious forehead and eyes vibrating.

Whoever reads, remembers and says this stotra herein be getting,
Purification forever and devotion of the great Guru Shiv’s obtaining.
For this devotion, there is no other way that any can be achieving,
Just the mere thought of Lord Shiv indeed delusion be so removing.

At the end of Puja, whoever utters with sincerity this stotra early morning,
Ever dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiv and listens to his calling,
Lord Shiv grants him with a very stable Lakshmi (prosperity) blessing,
And all the richness of material thoughts that he may be so wishing.
